Do you do the Facebook? It is a fairly new thing for me, but it’s been fun – catching up with a lot of people from school and what-not. But I think I learned today that you gotta be careful what you put as your status. ’Cause wow – people get ANGRY! Here’s what I wrote for my status today, while we were watching the inaugural festivities. Also right after seeing a bunch of comments from my more “conservative” friends saying some pretty nasty and negative things about our new president…
“Laurie thinks it’s a beautiful day, and will not let the negativity bring her down” :)
That’s all. Fairly non-controversial – OR SO I THOUGHT. Geez, the firestorm it caused. I think some people were just waiting for someone to jump all over, and I happened to be the one in the wrong place at the wrong time. But a lot of people stood up for me and sent me private messages telling me not to worry about all the stuff being said. It was all very silly really, but I did feel a little attacked. I mean, do I not have a right to express my happiness about this historic day? Good grief. I mean, I held my tongue when I read that “Obama is a communist”, or “better get used to socialism”, or “the Dow went down today – what about this change everybody’s talking about?” And these are some of the more tame statements.
So yeah, this was meant to be a light-hearted post about Facebook, and the constant email alerts I get about everything that everybody is doing every second of their lives. But I guess it turned into a rant, huh? I think I’ll change my status to “Laurie is Switzerland”. Also, I should probably spend a little less time on Facebook.
While we’re on the subject of today’s events – here’s something funny…
We were watching Obama’s speech, and when he got to the part about “duties”? You should have heard the 2 knuckleheads I call my children. It might as well have been Beavis and Butthead on the couch beside me. ”Heh heh, heh heh, he said “doodies”. Heh heh heh heh.”
Then later I was quizzing them on what we saw (I SWEAR, they ASKED me to – they love for us to give them “trivia” questions. I promise I’m not trying to torture the poor children.) ANYWAY, I asked Cooper if he remembered the name of the violinist who performed today. He says, “That was Yo Yo Mama!”
They can make me smile when nothing else will. :)

On a (sort of) related note – I can’t wait to see what Obama will say at his swearing in tomorrow… it’s finally here! Squeeee! The inauguration, and “LOST” returns – all in the same week?!!? Too much goodness. :)

OK, this is the just about the coolest thing ever. This website takes your photos and miniaturizes them - the pictures I used were taken at the cabin Kris and I stayed in for our anniversary. I’m going to play with this more when I have some time. I love it!
