A Farewell To Arms

“Maybe…you’ll fall in love with me all over again.”
“Hell,” I said, “I love you enough now. What do you want to do? Ruin me?”
“Yes. I want to ruin you.”
“Good,” I said. “That’s what I want too.”

want

Ahhhh, I love this room. It has all my favorite things – books, a dog, and a snuggly blanket. I’d love to arrange our books this way when we get a new house. And speaking of, I have to get back to cleaning/packing. We are taking soooo long to get this house ready to sell. Sigh.

let the wild rumpus start!

I’m so excited to see Where the Wild Things Are directed be Spike Jonze!  It comes out in October, and although I’ve read mixed reviews/opinions on the final version  – if it’s as cool as these pictures make it look?  It will be amazing.

I can’t even tell you how many times we’ve read this book to the boys.  Kris and I both loved it as kids, and it was probably one of the first books we bought when we found out I was pregnant.  For a while, it was on the must read list EVERY NIGHT.  And we couldn’t just READ it.  There were voices, and sound effects, and actions that had to be done, and the boys just ate it up.  Actually, we haven’t pulled this book out for a long time.  I think we’ll have to dig it out from the bookshelf that has since replaced it with things like Captain Underpants and Goosebumps

Twilight

Well, here goes.  Confession time…

No, I’m not a 13 year old, but yes – I LOVE TWILIGHT.  It all started with the books (I’m on the 3rd one).  I know, I know – they’re technically “young adult”.  Whatever.  Also, they’re pretty easy reads.  But isn’t this OK once in a while?  Everything can’t be War and Peace.  I’m really liking the series of books, so I was excited to see the movie tonight.  And it didn’t disappoint – Edward was amazing.

Anyway.  Usually Kris and I can discuss everything – especially books and movies because our tastes tend to be very similar.  However, he is SO ADAMANTLY against these books I cannot even tell you. Well, I’ll try.  Basically, he has a problem with the vampires in the book.  He says they aren’t real vampires. Guess what buddy?!  Vampires AREN’T real.  But he has this idea of what a vampire SHOULD be, based on movies he’s seen and books he’s read.  He has issues with the fact that they don’t eat humans, they don’t sleep in coffins, they don’t have fangs.  But most of all, he cannot accept the fact that they can go out in the sunlight.  Not only can Edward go out in the sunlight – when he does?  He sparkles.  Yep, like a million tiny diamonds he sparkles.  And he is beautiful.

So, Kris argues all these points with me, and you know how I respond?

I DON’T CARE.

where the sidewalk ends

“There is a place where the sidewalk endsAnd before the street begins,And there the grass grows soft and white,And there the sun burns crimson bright,And there the moon-bird rests from his flightTo cool in the peppermint wind.Let us leave this place where the smoke blows blackAnd the dark street winds and bends.Past the pits where the asphalt flowers growWe shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,And watch where the chalk-white arrows goTo the place where the sidewalk ends.“Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,For the children, they mark, and the children, they knowThe place where the sidewalk ends. -Shel Silverstein

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

-Shel Silverstein
