I don’t know where the kid gets this stuff, he doesn’t even watch that “Earl” show…

So last night was movie night, as it is every Friday night.  We watched ‘The Secret of NIMH’.

Kris and I both loved this book and movie as kids, so we were excited to share it with the boys. However, we did remember that it got a little scary at times.  We were at the part where Justin (good guy) and Jenner (very bad guy, trying to kill Nicodemus) were having their sword fight.  It was getting pretty intense, and we were watching the boys, making sure they were ok.  They were wide-eyed, mesmerized.  (It’s important at this point in my story to remind you that Jenner was a VERY BAD RAT, the villain of the story, an all around a-hole)  Anyway, the scene ends with Jenner being stabbed in the stomach by Justin, and then fatally wounded by a knife thrown by another rat.  (yes this movie is rated G, but keep in mind it was 1982.)

As Jenner collapses, Cooper deadpans –  Now THAT’S Karma”.

The Great Outdoors

We had so much fun on our camping trip – but we were all exhausted Sunday night, and then Monday was the first day back at school!  Whose idea was it to do this the weekend before school started?  So although I STILL haven’t unpacked everything from the  trip, I did want to post some pictures.  Priorities, ya know?

Hopefully work and soccer will allow us to do a few more trips this Fall.  And my brother thought this whole thing was a bad idea

This is forced family fun at its finest!  No, seriously – we love it.  If you haven’t been camping lately, or ever, you really should try it.  Especially if you have little ones.

Bloo Cheese

The first time Kris and I saw the character “Cheese” (and how he interacts with “Bloo”) on Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, we were crying because we were laughing so hard.  If you know Cooper and Ty, then you know why.  Cooper is Bloo all the way, and Ty?  It’s like they peered into our lives and modeled the character of Cheese after him exactly.  It’s UNCANNY I tell you.

Hits closer to home than you can even imagine.

mama for Obama

I’m more excited to get that text message from Barack telling me (before anyone else!) who his VP pick will be than to know who the actual VP will be.

I make myself sad sometimes.

what fresh hell is this?

Inscription for the Ceiling of a Bedroom

Daily dawns another day;
I must up, to make my way.
Though I dress and drink and eat,
Move my fingers and my feet,
Learn a little, here and there,
Weep and laugh and sweat and swear,
Hear a song, or watch a stage,
Leave some words upon a page,
Claim a foe, or hail a friend-
Bed awaits me at the end.

Though I go in pride and strength,
I’ll come back to bed at length.
Though I walk in blinded woe,
Back to bed I’m bound to go.
High my heart, or bowed my head,
All my days but lead to bed.
Up, and out, and on; and then
Ever back to bed again,
Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall-
I’m a fool to rise at all!

(Hooo boy!  We sure do know how to live it up on a Friday night.  At least I got to go out to dinner with a super sweet friend that I haven’t seen in FOREVER – thanks Leah!)

Y’all have a great weekend…

what does an Olympian eat in a day?

Olympic athlete Michael Phelps eats 12,000 calories a day.  By comparison, the average man of the same age needs to ingest about 2,000 calories a day.

He starts off his day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise.

He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.

At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread – capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

For dinner, Phelps really loads up on the carbs – what he needs to give him plenty of energy for his five-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week regimen – with a pound of pasta and an entire pizza.

He washes all that down with another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

(Wow.  I wouldn’t be able to MOVE after eating all that, let alone break any records…)

new DHARMA video from Comic-Con ’08!

It’s LOST night, but since we have no LOST – this will have to do.  The following video just reminded me how much I’m missing this show!  I’m geeking out.
